Pain-free surgical treatment
Single-tooth implants use a single dental implant and a dental crown to restore one tooth. Compared to other treatments like dental bridges and partial dentures, this treatment has a variety of benefits.
Single-tooth implants will look and feel just like natural teeth. The design of a dental implant mimics that of your natural teeth, and the crown will be built of durable, tooth-colored porcelain, and matched to your adjacent teeth. Your new smile will look, feel, and function perfectly. Nobody will ever have to know that you’ve lost a tooth.
Dental bridges can be a bit bulky and take some time to get used to, while partial dentures may tend to shift when you eat, speak, or chew. In contrast, dental implants feel more natural and are indistinguishable from natural teeth. They also will never move or shift in your mouth, since they are securely anchored to your jaw.
Bridges and partial dentures may restore your tooth, but they lead to a condition called “bone resorption,” where the underlying jaw bone begins to weaken due to tooth loss. Dental implants help you avoid this issue. They are implanted directly into the jaw bone, and stimulate the bone to prevent you from losing bone mass in your jaw.
To begin with, you’ll need to schedule an appointment at Oakbrook Dental with Dr. Patel or Dr. Major. You’ll get a comprehensive oral exam and x-rays to determine if you’re a good candidate, and you’ll discuss your options for smile restoration with Dr. Patel or Dr. Major.
If implants are right for you, you will come back to our office in a few weeks for your implant placement surgery. Your mouth will be cleaned and numbed, and an implant will be placed precisely in the area where your missing tooth used to be. Then, the area will be stitched shut to ensure proper healing, and you’ll be sent home.
It takes 1-2 weeks to heal from your initial surgery, but about 3-6 months for the implant to fully attach to your jaw bone. You will come in for several follow-ups throughout this time to have your healing progress checked, and to take impressions and images of your mouth to build a custom dental crown.
Once your mouth has fully healed and your dental crown is ready, you’ll come in for your final appointment. Dr. Patel or Dr. Major will check your crown for the proper fit, and then bond it into place permanently. Then, you’ll be sent home to enjoy your new smile.
