Why choose dental bonding? It has a wide variety of benefits, but most patients choose this treatment for the following reasons:
Dental bonding is usually less expensive than other cosmetic treatments like veneers, so it’s a good option on a budget.
None of your natural enamel is removed, so this procedure involves no drilling and is totally non-invasive and reversible.
Multiple teeth can be treated in one appointment, so you’ll get a beautiful new smile right away.
Dental bonding is a cosmetic treatment that uses dental resin to reshape and restore your smile. In the bonding process, this tooth-colored material is applied directly to your tooth, and then reshaped, hardened, and trimmed by a dentist to enhance your smile.
This treatment can be used to treat a wide variety of cosmetic dental issues, such as gaps between the teeth, uneven teeth, misshapen teeth, gaps between the teeth, and more. Once the process is finished, the tooth will look and feel completely natural.
To begin the process, Dr. Major or Dr. Patel will clean your mouth. Usually, numbing is not required for dental bonding. But we do offer sedation dentistry at our office, which may be a good option if you have dental anxiety or are nervous about your procedure.
Next, Dr. Major or Dr. Patel will apply a mild acid to your tooth. This roughens it up and prepares it for the bonding process. Then, they will rinse away the acid after a few minutes, select dental resin that matches the color of your teeth, and apply it directly to the tooth.
Using special tools, they will reshape and sculpt the resin to restore the shape and appearance of your tooth. Once the overall shape looks good, the resin will be hardened with an ultraviolet light. Then, Dr. Major or Dr. Patel will use a dental drill to trim and refine the resin until the tooth looks perfect. The entire process usually takes about 30-60 minutes per tooth.
In most cases, yes. Dental bonding is usually considered to be a cosmetic treatment, so it’s not usually covered by dental insurance, and you’ll have to pay for it out of pocket.
However, there are some exceptions. If you experience a dental injury and get a chip in a front tooth, for example, your dental insurance policy may cover some of the cost of dental bonding to restore your tooth. We recommend contacting your insurer directly for more information.
You don’t need to do anything special after your dental bonding treatment, and you can get back to your normal diet and daily routine right away. Just continue brushing and flossing regularly, and make sure to come back and see Dr. Patel or Dr. Major for six-month teeth cleanings and oral exams.
