Custom Cosmetic Makeovers
While the most obvious benefit of cosmetic treatment is that you’ll enjoy a confidence boost, there are other advantages of sprucing up your smile. Patients are more likely to care for their teeth when they feel proud of the way they look, which means that you’ll enjoy oral health benefits. Straight, evenly spaced teeth are also easier to care for with brushing and flossing.
Laughter and smiling are outward expressions of joy, and if you find yourself hiding your happiness due to cosmetic flaws with your teeth, we can help!
Teeth staining and yellowing can make you look older than you are. Cosmetic dentistry allows you to rejuvenate your appearance for a more youthful look.
Some treatments, like veneers, can actually strengthen your teeth. In addition, patients who undergo cosmetic treatment are more likely to brush and floss.
Professional teeth whitening uses a powerful whitening agent such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to “bleach” stains away from your teeth. Stains are typically caused by the natural aging process, tobacco use, and drinking beverages like coffee, tea, and wine. Whitening can eliminate stains and restore the beauty of your enamel.
At Oakbrook Dental, we offer in-office whitening for the fastest results, and take-home whitening kits to give you the option to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home.
Veneers are a special type of cosmetic dental prosthesis. They are made of a thin layer of ceramic material, and are built to fit over the front surfaces of your teeth after they have been trimmed, covering up your natural enamel. This allows veneers to cover up almost any cosmetic issue with your smile, ranging from small or misshapen teeth to stains, gaps, and chips. Veneers are also very strong and durable, and they typically last 10-15 years or longer.
Lumineers (which are also sometimes called “no-prep” veneers) are nearly identical to traditional veneers, with one exception: they are much thinner. Traditional veneers are about 0.5mm thick, while Lumineers are 0.2mm thick. Since they are so thin, Lumineers can often be placed on your teeth with little-to-no preparation of the enamel. This means the placement process is less invasive and that the procedure can be reversed, unlike traditional veneers.
